English-language Learning Children...Does it pose a problem?
Coming from underserved communities is difficult enough. But, dealing with a language barrier cannot make things any easier. What are your thoughts with regard to the English-language learning children?
Being non-English speaking is a task in itself. These children have to adapt to an environment where their native language is not primary. However, as previously mentioned, with perseverance and determination, it is an obstacle I believe they can overcome.
It poses a problem, but not one that should be deemed an obstacle. With perseverance and determination, a child learning a new language can be as academically successful as the native English speaker.
They won't be the first and they won't be the last to be native English speakers. So, for those that claim it's a problem, I think they are just looking for an excuse. We live in a country where non-English speakers are accommodated, so the need to learn is not there.
It poses a problem if the desire to learn to speak English is not there. Personally, I know people that have been in this country longer than I have been born and cannot hold a conversation, because as Drizzy mentioned, they don't have to if they don't want to.
